What a Free Account Includes
A free account keeps your work permanently and gives you the core of the app:
- recipe calculations, charts and balancing, including Smart Balance;
- your own personal ingredients, and the free Ingredient Packs;
- Explore, cloning community recipes, and sharing your own recipes and charts;
- nutrition labels, recipe cards and HTML reports;
- exporting recipes and charts (JSON) and recipes to Excel;
- most tools and calculators, the Display Case, the Showcase and the Shopping List.
The one limit on a free account is the number of recipes: 15. See The 15-Recipe Limit below.
What Premium Adds
Premium removes the recipe limit and unlocks the features below. When you open one of them on a free account, the app shows an upgrade dialog instead.
- Unlimited recipes, and the recipe History in Recipe View (saved versions you can compare and restore).
- AI features: the AI Recipe Generator, AI Ingredient and AI estimates in the ingredient editor, the AI estimate of sub-ingredients and allergens, the AI Labeling tool, Classify with AI in Smart Balance, and the AI option when converting volumes to weights. Smart Balance itself is free.
- Production: Production Planning, Stock Management, the Production Log, Analytics, Traceability, Recipe Sets & Labels, products and packaging, and Mark as produced on the Produce page. See Production System.
- Sugars: the sugar composition of ingredients (the Sugars tab in the ingredient editor), the Sugars card in the Recipe Editor, and the per-sugar recipe values and table columns. See Sugar Composition.
- Acidity Analysis in Tools.
- Languages: the app in a language other than English. See Choosing the App Language.
- Files and integrations: the REST API, importing and exporting ingredient files, Excel Backup and Export to Desktop (see Import and Export), and Python Scripts, both on the Python Scripts page and in report templates.
- Ingredient Packs marked with a Premium chip. Packs without the chip are free.
- Showcase: showing your public showcase in another language, and public links on your own web address. See Showcase.
The 15-Recipe Limit
A free account can save up to 15 recipes. Hidden recipes count too. When you try to create, copy, clone or import a recipe beyond the limit, the app opens an upgrade dialog instead. Importing a file with more recipes than you have room for imports only as many as fit.
If an account has more than 15 recipes without Premium, for example after a Premium subscription ends, only the 15 newest (by creation date) stay editable. The older ones stay in your recipe list, dimmed and marked with a lock and Premium, and cannot be opened until you upgrade. A banner above the list explains why. Nothing is deleted. If you delete one of the newer recipes, the next older one unlocks.
Moving from the desktop app? Migrating from the Windows desktop app brings in all your recipes, even on a free account. The same rule then applies: the 15 newest are editable. See Desktop Migration Guide.
Upgrading to Premium
- Sign in, and open Account in the main menu.
- On the Subscription card, click Upgrade to Premium.
- In the dialog, click Upgrade Now. You go to Stripe's secure checkout page to pay by card.
- After payment you return to a Welcome to Premium! page. The Premium features can take a few minutes to activate; if you don't see them, refresh the page.
Every upgrade dialog in the app (for example when you open a Premium feature) has the same Upgrade Now button. If you leave the checkout without paying, you see Upgrade Cancelled and nothing is charged. A guest must create an account and sign in before upgrading.
Managing or Cancelling Your Subscription
With Premium, the Subscription card shows Premium Plan Active and the date the current period ends. In the last 30 days before that date the card shows a reminder. Unless you cancel, the subscription renews.
Click Manage Subscription to open Stripe's customer portal, where you manage or cancel your subscription. When you cancel, Premium stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for (or until the end of a trial), and the account then becomes a free account.
If Premium Ends
When a subscription ends, the account becomes a free account. Your data is kept, but Premium features are no longer available:
- recipes beyond the 15 newest are locked (see above);
- production data, recipe sets, scripts, recipe history and sugar compositions are kept but cannot be used;
- your API key stops working;
- the app returns to English. Your language choice is remembered for when you subscribe again.
Subscribe again and everything is available as before. Ingredients you imported from Premium packs stay yours.
Creating an Account and Signing In
- Click Create Account on the welcome page, or Login in the main menu and then Don't have an account? Register here.
- Enter your e-mail address and a password (at least 8 characters, with an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter and a digit), and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
- Open the verification e-mail and click the link. The link expires after 24 hours; you can ask for a new one.
- Sign in.
Forgot your password? Click Forgot your password? on the sign-in page. Recipes you made as a guest are not moved into the new account.
The Account Page
Open Account in the main menu. The page is titled Account Settings, with a Logout button at the top. It is made of cards:
Account Information and Logo
Shows your e-mail address, when the account was created and when you last signed in. Under Logo, click Upload Logo to add your logo to your recipe cards (JPG, PNG, GIF or WebP). The app resizes it to at most 300 × 300 pixels and 200 KB. Remove Logo takes it off. See Recipe Cards.
Subscription
Shows your plan and the upgrade or Manage Subscription button, as described above.
API Access
The REST API lets your own programs read your recipes. With Premium, click Generate API Key. You can then show or copy the key, see a usage example, use Test API Connection or the API Test Page, and Regenerate API Key (the old key stops working) or Revoke API Key. Keep the key private. See REST API.
Your Showcase Domain
This card appears only if your own web address has been set up for your showcase. Your public showcase links and QR codes then use that address. Contact support to change or remove it. See Showcase.
Sharing Profile
Before you can share recipes with the community, complete your sharing profile: a Display Name (up to 50 characters, must be unique) and an optional Bio (up to 500 characters). Other users see both on your shared recipes. Click Edit Profile to change them later. See Sharing.
Change Password
Enter your current password and the new one twice, then click Change Password.
Translate the App
Volunteers help translate Ice Cream Calculator. Translator access is granted by an administrator; if you would like to help, contact support.
Choosing the App Language
The language menu is in the footer at the bottom of every page. English is always free. Choosing another language needs Premium; guests and free accounts see an upgrade dialog. After you choose, the page reloads in the new language.
The language changes the app's own texts and the names of shared library ingredients. Your own ingredients and recipes, community content, Knowledge Base articles and AI answers are not translated.
Your Data
Download My Data
Under Account Actions, click Download My Data to download a complete copy of your data (recipes, ingredients, charts and settings) as one JSON file. This is your copy under the GDPR. For a readable copy in Excel, Premium accounts can use Excel Backup; see Import and Export.
Delete My Account
Deleting your account permanently removes all your recipes, ingredients, charts and account data. It cannot be undone, so download your data first.
- Preview Deletion shows how many recipes, personal ingredients, charts, recipe cards, shared recipes and production logs would be deleted, and warns you if you have shared content, which is removed from the community. From there you can continue with Proceed to Delete.
- Delete My Account starts the deletion directly.
Either way, you confirm several times:
- A warning that the action is permanent. Click Yes, Continue. If you have Premium, the warning also says that your subscription is cancelled immediately and that unused prepaid time is not refunded.
- Type your e-mail address and click Verify.
- Type YES and click Delete My Account.
- Optionally tell us why you are leaving, then click Proceed with Deletion.
When the account is deleted, you are signed out.
